Shark or skate skin

Claude Dozorme likes to use beautiful and original materials for his exceptional pieces, shagreen is one of them. Shagreen owes its name to its inventor Jean Claude Galluchat, Master gainier of Louis XV who died in 1774 who developed this technique of sheathing or leatherwork. Both rare and precious, shagreen is a skate or shark leather. Nowadays the main and legal provenance of the stingray is Thailand or Indonesia, where there is an abundance of a variety of skate which is not on the list of endangered species and remains authorized for fishing.
